Today she would have been a ripe 67. Born on January 19th, 1943, she is a Capricorn. As am I. Which means we are cooler than you. Did I mention we are also partial to egotism?
I’m about to get all astrological on your ass. I own a book called The Secret Language of Birthdays. It has what it calls a “personology” guide with specific characteristics influenced by sun sign, season and day of the year. Which really means I have astro-stalked all of my exes…
HA! This book knows he was a cold hearted bastard too. It even knows he was an insensitive, smothering child…It also knows that I’m bossy, hypocritical and closed, but, really, who’s looking at details?
According to the book, January 19th is “The Day of Dreams and Visions”. People born on this day are:
- Electric
- Creative
- Influential
- Maladjusted
- Unstable
- Self-Destructive
It goes on to say:
“Those born on January 19 must be allowed the psychic space to dream and experience their highly unique orientation to life. Even in the most practical areas of their work they tend to act according to far-reaching social and universal ideals. These powerful individuals are often in touch with the hidden aspects of human emotions and consciousness, and to the extent that they bring out such truths in their own uncompromising manner of living, can be an example to others.”
Janis shares this astrological description with writer Edgar Allen Poe (creepy), photographer Cynthia Sherman (personal hero) and singer/songwriter Dolly Parton (Didn’t see that coming).
There is also an advice section for each birth date. Janis’ says:
“Keep your head screwed on straight. Don’t get sidetracked. Make the pleasures of life last longer, while deemphasizing negative experiences. Calm yourself and maintain good work habits.”
Each day has a meditation:
“In dreams, some forget while others discover who they really are.”
I like to imagine Janis as the latter. As a woman that took to the stars and found exactly where she belonged.
Happy birthday Janis! I’m going to hop in the shower, where I do my best singing, and bust out a few stellar performances in your honor. I suggest others do the same!

I’m not sure if I totally agree… However, you do make some great points.
